Athleisure

Lately I’m loving athleisure looks. They’re strong yet relaxed, and they’re typically finished with some type of slip-on shoe. I’m also loving the versatility of this season’s “it” pant — tie waist trousers/joggers — as you can dress them up or down. I chose to pair them with a varsity tee, but also with heels (sorry, sneaks) and dressy jewelry — creating an almost-athleisure look that’s still acceptable for the office.

America’s birthday

Happy Birthday, America! You look pretty great to be 239, but don’t worry —
even better days await you.

We need only be patient.

I turned a Forever 21 skirt into a tube top and paired it with high waisted pants — J.C. Penney‘s She Said brand, bought from Goodwill. These Worthington shoes came from my publisher, who was cleaning out her closet a couple weeks ago (thanks!). My purse is old Lulu Guinness, my red bangle is from the Seventeen intern freebie table (those were the days), and my other bracelet is from Charlotte Russe.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Chic, cheap and short (hair)

Two months and one haircut later, I’m back!

Here are some fun facts about this look:

  1. This Banana Republic top was on sale for $12. I also used a 10 percent student discount.
  2. These shorts were purchased out of season two years ago at J.C. Penney. They cost $4.
  3. You can’t see the $3.99 sticker on the bottom of these heels. They came from Goodwill.  I also used a 10 percent student discount.
  4. This Nine West purse is not new. It’s not from last season, or the season before that, OR the season before that.
  5. I don’t know how to style hair. Carrie at Trumps Salon is a genius, though.

Did I write a book or something? This kind of looks like an author photo.

I will admit, I’ve struggled with blogging because I thought it might seem vain. That, however, has never been my goal. My first goal was to go back to doing what I love to do (i.e. mixing and matching pieces and accessories), and blogging became a natural progression of that. Hopefully my posts have served as inspiration to shop smart — and sparingly.

Shirt: DOE presents Marvel Comics. Skirt: Worthington (out of stock but others here). Purse: Dana Buchman. Shoes: Simply Vera Vera Wang.

A dressy skirt makes this playful shirt a little more appropriate for work. This shirt, which I’ve had since high school, should now read, “I married a super hero.” Especially since Adam is arguably Captain ‘Merica.

Have fun at the movies!
